It's a Normal Thing To Do.
It's a normal thing to do when you are in love...Get married. Two of our street kids got married yesterday. It looked like and sounded like any wedding you might go to. They got married in a warehouse looking drop in center for homeless youth and there where a couple of homeless teens sleeping on a couch nearby. Those are 2 ways it wasn't a "normal" wedding. It struck me that they were extremely happy, like any other couple. It bothered me that after their ceremony, instead of going on a honeymoon, they went back to their tent that is hidden amid some bushes near downtown Denver. It also completely befuddled my brain that the brides father was there to give her away! How does a father get to a point in his relationship with his daughter that he doesn't care she lives on the street. How does he not do anything about it. I don't understand how he can can give his daughter away to a guy that lives in a tent and doesn't have a job. And as a father of a daughter, I can't fathom why he didn't come to the wedding, apologize for his mistakes and save her by taking her home. But other than that it was a normal wedding.
But I guess it just goes to show that these beautiful souls are just like you and I. They want to get married, have a honeymoon, and have their friends be really happy for them. I'm glad my friends have love. I'm happy for them in their new marriage. And I pray for them as I do for all my non-homeless friends who get married
"Father, Bless them. Protect them. Help them to seek you within their marriage and give them the will to stay together, even when they don't feel like it."
-Amen-
